In the video The World is Flat 3.0 it surprised me how Thomas Friedman, a regular MIT professor, could come up with the idea of discovering how our world really is a flat, connected space. It was amazing to find out in my childhood that the amazing innovation of the internet was created.
To be exact it was made in 1995 due to the creators of the first internet browser called Netscape, which then flourished into a major fiber optic network that connected the US to Japan, and many other countries as a whole. I do disagree though, only because our world in the US is totally different to how others worlds are in Bejing, or in Bangladesh.
Friedman also showed a good example of globalization over time with the terms world 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. World 1.0 was from the A.D times to 1420. World 2.0 was from 1420 until the year 2000. And 3.0 was from 2000 to the present. Over time, he spoke how each globalization period brought new technology into our world. Such as the PC.
I believe with the Flat Classroom project, people can better understand what life is like as a student in other countries other than what its like in other states. I believe the project will help show how others in different countries interact with us to be a team in group work and discover how we really are all alike in some way, shape, and form. I only worry if the groups we will work with can cooperate well, and know the same things we know here in America. But in all I think this will overall be a great experience.
I think it is crazy that internet was made and being worked on while I was only a baby. Ever since I can remember internet has always been there. Do you think that the world can get any "flatter" with even newer technology?
ReplyDeleteI think is quite extraordinary that a simple MIT professor developde this idea. His long section on Netscape and the way that they started to make a huge proft in the interent business really put a face and company to the idea of globalized economy.
ReplyDeleteI like your view on this project, simply because it is a lot like mine. it is awesome we can communicate so easily with other schools and work on projects together too. I like your perspective
ReplyDeleteYeah, I had no clue that the first internet browser was introduced only 16 years ago!! But, yeah I nervous about communicating with all these different people in my group. Well, wish me luck and I hope the project goes well for you too :)
ReplyDeleteHey Terrin, I actually hope that through this project you'll find that individual people are just people. The human population is more alike than different and we need to work to be more caring, accepting, and tolerant of individual differences. Our environments and cultures may be different, but we are still all human beings competing in this global world!!!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that the first internet browser was Netscape. && Yes it does help, and is a lot easier to put together for work and schools. Great Job Terrin I hope all goes well for you!
ReplyDeleteI just learned reading this what the first internet browser was! I think it's pretty cool how we can communicate with people from across the world and see their point of view on things.
